Equatorial Latitude - Humidity

Humidity

Humidity

A majority of cities near the equator have high humidity levels, although there are several cities near the equator that do not. Humidity is the amount of water vapor contained in the air. Since air can hold more water vapor at higher temperatures than the same amount of air at lower temperatures, we would expect humidity levels to increase as we move closer to the equator, but the data displays a conflicting pattern. Several cities further away from the equator also have high humidity levels. Contrary to the relationship between humidity and heat, humidity can also indicate the likelihood of precipitation, dew, or fog, so it is likely that the the high humidity levels north of the equator are related to rain and fog which is consistent with the season in the northern hempisphere at that time of the year.
